Sickle Scan
CXJ020 – Sickle SCAN® Lateral Flow Test
EC95 – Sickle SCAN® EC95 Positive Control
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder which often causes red blood cells (RBCs) to become sickle-shaped through the presence of the abnormal haemoglobin S variant. Highly rigid sickle-shaped blood may have difficulty passing through small blood vessels, blocking the normal blood flow, damaging tissues, and ultimately leading to many of the complications of SCD. Additionally, RBCs containing mostly haemoglobin S live only about 16 days compared to 120 days for normal red blood cells. To initiate life-saving therapies, early diagnosis of SCD is key.
Sickle screening was previously carried out using turbidimetric tests that involved sample and reagent preparation. Interpretation of these tests was also difficult, and a visual “key” to aid in the interpretation was required.
BioMedomics™ Sickle SCAN® removes the necessity for sample preparation and ready to use reagents are supplied with the kit. BioMedomics™ Sickle SCAN® results are also very easy to interpret. The cartridge displays blue stripes for a strong visual contrast with no requirement for a visual “key” to aid in interpretation. Results are provided within 5 minutes.
Features & Benefits
The test can be completed in under 5 minutes giving real-time results. It uses a small amount of whole blood from a fingerstick, heel stick, or venipuncture.
Compared to traditional screening testing, Sickle SCAN:
- Streamlines the clinical work flow
- Requires no supporting equipment or rigorous training
- No sample or buffer preparation
- Easy to interpret results
- Identification of AA, AS, SS, and AC phenotypes
- Differentiate between Sickle Cell Disease and Sickle Cell Trait
Steps
- Collect a 5 µL blood sample.
- Mix blood with buffer solution
- Place 5 drops on test strip and wait 5 minutes.
- Easy interpretation
