CAREERS AT MSC
Who Thrives at MSC?
People who excel at MSC combine scientific or technical expertise with curiosity, initiative and a genuine passion for helping others. We value energy, innovation and flexibility — and we are at our best when our people are too.
CAREERS AT MSC
Sales Team
Our sales people are not just commercially minded; they are scientists at heart. Many of our most successful sales team members have strong academic backgrounds in life sciences or diagnostics, paired with a natural interest in new technologies and innovation. They understand how research works, how clinical diagnostics operate and what makes pharmaceutical manufacturing tick, and they enjoy applying that knowledge to real-world commercial challenges. Often experienced lab workers, our sales people are drawn to a more varied career, and MSC offers an opportunity that blends science with people, travel, problem-solving and constant learning. Many of our staff worked part-time in retail commercial environments during their studies and discovered they enjoyed that fast-paced, customer-facing dynamic.
At MSC, they excel in a role that allows them to keep one foot in science, while developing deep commercial acumen and building long-term relationships with customers who value expert support.
Service Team
Our engineers and technicians thrive on variety, complexity and independence. We do not expect new team members to know how to install, validate or repair everything from day one, and so we provide deep and ongoing training from multiple sources, including in-house mentoring, supplier factory training and accredited third-party courses. What matters most is mindset. Our service team members are natural problem-solvers who strive to understand how things work, take ownership of issues and know how to ask the right questions and seek the right support. They enjoy building their technical expertise over time and applying it across a wide variety of equipment and customer settings. This is not a shift-based job, maintaining the same set of machines in the same factory every day. Our engineers work all over Ireland and sometimes in the UK. One day might involve commissioning a new lab-grade freezer; the next, cleanroom validation, calibration, or a customer site survey.
They need to be persistent, adaptable and comfortable with time in the van – but they get unmatched variety, autonomy and the satisfaction of solving critical problems in healthcare and science.
Our People Testimonials
-

I joined MSC in 2007 as a sales representative on the Life Science and Pharma team, having studied Biotechnology with business modules in areas like accounting and marketing. I was a quiet addition at first — quiet enough that some people in the building did not know who I was for the first few years! But I knew early on that I wanted to combine science with business, and MSC gave me the perfect platform to do that.
In 2011, with Brendan’s encouragement, I began a part-time Masters in Management at the Smurfit School of Business in UCD. MSC was incredibly supportive, providing study leave and allowing me to use the company as a case study. That level of belief and investment in people has always stayed with me.
In 2017, I became Sales Manager for our newly formed Pharmaceutical, Food and Industry team, which now has four members. I was appointed COO in 2021 and joined the Board in 2025. I am deeply grateful for the faith placed in me over the years, and for the vision shown to nurture my passion for management from the very beginningCian Murphy

I joined MSC in 1998 as a Stores Operative after several years working in a pub and an off-licence. I was ready for a more structured role with a future, and through a family connection with Brendan and Angela Scully, I heard MSC were looking for someone to join the warehouse team. I stepped into the role just as Chris Kelly was moving on to become a service engineer.
Since then, I have worked in Goods Inwards, admin, and order entry before moving into the Supply Chain function, an area that suited my interest in logistics and problem-solving. MSC has always been very supportive in providing training and development opportunities, and that backing helped me take each step forward.
Outside of work, I have a background as a goalkeeper in the League of Ireland with Dundalk and Drogheda, and now I coach my four daughters in goalkeeping across both soccer and Gaelic football. There is definitely a bit of crossover — staying calm under pressure, staying focused, and doing your best to keep things moving in the right direction.
Today, I lead the Supply Chain team and still enjoy the challenge of solving problems as they arise and making sure our customers get what they need, when they need it.Justin O’Neill

I joined MSC through a recruitment agency after spending a year travelling and completing a PLC in Warehouse Management. I started in the warehouse and, over time, began helping out on equipment installations. I found I really enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how things worked and solving problems. With support from Jimmy and MSC, I enrolled in an electronics course in Kevin Street, attending three evenings a week, plus one day release.
After my first year in Kevin Street, I joined the Service Department full-time. The encouragement I received, both from Jimmy, who told me I could do it, and from MSC, who backed me with the time and training, made all the difference.
Today, I am the General Service Manager, leading a team of four field-based engineers and technicians working across temperature mapping, calibration, monitoring, clinical diagnostics, and more. I enjoy the variety, the satisfaction of seeing a big job through from start to finish, and the chance to plan and support others as they grow, too.Chris Kelly

I joined MSC in 2017 as part of the Health Informatics team, bringing with me a background in retail, IT support and data analysis. In that role, I focused on implementing laboratory information systems, providing customer support, upgrades and improving workflows.
In 2022, I transitioned to the Clinical Diagnostics Service Team, a move supported by MSC leadership, who recognised both the growing need for IT expertise in frontline diagnostics and the transferable skills I had developed. Since then, I’ve completed specialist training on platforms such as Sebia Capillarys 2 & 3 and ABE Medialwel/Distriwel, and now provide hands-on support for critical clinical diagnostic systems.
I enjoy the variety, the opportunity to problem-solve in high-impact environments, and the sense of purpose that comes from supporting patient care through reliable diagnosticsAde

Before joining MSC, I worked as an Aesthetic Practitioner for 15 years, specialising in skin and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. After having my first baby and during lockdown, I decided it was time for a career change that offered a better work-life balance. I began studying IT part-time and joined MSC as a receptionist, drawn by its supportive environment and growth opportunities. After completing my course, an opening in the IT team came up, and with the encouragement and support of my colleagues, I made the transition. Today, I enjoy working through technical challenges and supporting colleagues with their IT needs.
